Gunung Ledang, or also known as Mount Ophir is with a height of 1276m the highest mountain in the state of Johore. The Puteri Fall is named after the legendary Princess of Gunung Ledang, a folklore legend involving a courtship story by the sultan of Malacca Sultan Mansur Shah.

The park has many lower cascades levels with pools along with picnic places in lush well maintained tropical forest. They attract a big crowd, especially during weekends. The park is well equipped with proper walkways, plenty of parking spaces, fenced boundaries & restrooms with shower facilities. It is perhaps one of the better managed parks in Malaysia that also features proper ticketing counters & entry management with patrolling park rangers and routine waste management.

The park is open from 9am to 5pm which closes every Wednesdays and does impose a parking & entrance fee. (more info here) The fall is located on the lower slopes of the mountain which are easily accessible by a predesignated park walkway suitable for beginners to visit.

Puteri Falls (Upper Tier)

From the town of Tangkak, take Route no. 23 towards Sagil. After Sagil town, look out for the Hutan Lipur Gunung Ledang sign that points to the waterfall junction exit.(Image 1.) Be sure to take the correct exit and not the one that goes to Ayer Puteh Falls.

To reach the waterfall, it is pretty straight forward. Follow the predetermined path on the right of the stream. Landmark points of interest are well signposted at the corresponding junctions.(Image 2 & 3.)

The Puteri Fall itself is a multi-level cascade, about 60m tall. As the cascade is curved and slightly sloped, it is difficult to get a complete view of it and grasp its sense of scale. Only when visitors are midway up the steep cemented stairs that gazing down the waterfall from the top does it look spectacular(and rather scary). Up at its peak, a large pool exist that is great for swimming and another attractive cascade tier at the top which is a nice place to spend a lazy Sunday.
