Waterfalls  for the adventurous
This name is synonymous with the Buaya Sangkut waterfall.
This huge national park is also home to many faunas and flora.
Perhaps, the most important fact is that this stretch of jungle is the only natural habitat for this palm.

The Endau Rompin Park spans over 2 states, Johore and Pahang. The Johore SEDC has actively promoted the park, as the known attractions are located within their sector.

Most attention and publicity given to the park focus on the green segment- i.e. that under the Johore Government.

This perhaps is due the attraction offered by the jungle tracking trips to Upeh Guling, a series of whirlpools on rock surfaces, and the scenic Buaya Sangkut Waterfall. The Pahang portion of the Park does have their own lesser known waterfalls.

Between the Mersing and Kluang highway, 43 kilometers {Batu 26} from Kluang, there is this prominent sign. All the way to the park headquarters, the turnings are well indicated.

The text and pictures you are about to open, focus on our journey utilizing the road leading to Park headquarters in Kampong Peta. More write-ups and attachment will appear in future updates.

Unlike Taman Negara, intending motorists were not cautioned that the trail is more suited for rugged vehicles, particularly certain stretches nearing the end.

There are few gradual slopes that get slippery after the rain. Conventional tires may not propel the vehicle upwards, as we learn the hard way.

The journey is long involving plantations tracks , it is easy to decide on an inappropriate turning to end up in logging areas.

But with a bit of imagination and the numerous tiny direction boards, seasoned traveler will not find the trail complicated to follow. Vincent assured Joyce - he is receiving the message, loud and clear!
There are also some interesting moment, such as going over this bridge of logs at Sungai Emas. Since this photograph was taken, the bridge has been upgraded.

The overall trail combine existing estate tracks and a specially prepared laterite road, which again is beautifully upgraded for all weather use to service the residents of Kampong Peta.

The road condition of the track was as follows:- 1st 30 kilometers, starting with rubber, then a substantial part through palm oil plantations. During the dry weather, the tracks may also turn dusty.

Please be warned! - the 2nd 30-kilometer stretch of trail runs through uninhabited area. If you need some emergency help, your chances of assistance will depend on the infrequent passersby, which are very few indeed. Now almost reaching the park, some logging activities are on -going.

The park headquarters is housed in a large and beautiful constructed wooden structure with upper levels.

Here all amenities- office, meeting area, hall, stores and all modern facilities are available. It is strategically located at a junction to Kampong Peta, where the jetty is. Here we show the signboard indicating another track to Kuala Jasin.

The picture of the car in front of this building is of special significance to me. I may be among the very first few whom has taken a car through this 18-kilometer stretch to Kuala Jasin. On the way back, the rain has made the road slippery and we could not get the car through. I had to send Choy Hoong through the jungle for assistance. With a stroke of luck, I freed myself while she too return with a tractor. It was a frightful but wonderful experience.

Here you have a glimpse of the Endau River flowing pass the jetty and a glimpse of the ferryboat.

The river at this stretch is very calm and further upstream, there are some mild rapids.

Endau Rompin Park ranks lower in being commercialized, as it caters for outdoor trips and those who seek adventure. The other more publicized Taman Negara takes in causal travelers and families, which increases patronage dramatically. It is comforting that Endau Rompin resisted the temptation and limits the facilities to nature lovers.

The park headquarter is fully equipped to provide causal visitors with all camping gears and jungle trekking needs. There are adequate guides and numerous trails with the park area, but most visitors head straight for the Buaya Sangkut waterfall. The itinerary entails the following:

Kampong Peta - Kuala Jasin- by ferry

Kuala Jasin- Kampong Marang- Upeh Gulling- Buaya Sangkut

Trekking distance is approximate 15 kilometers and four hours are estimated for single trip. This is the basic itinerary; so be prepared for 8 hours trek if you are on time constraint to see the waterfall as a day tripper.
