Waterfalls  for the adventurous

Waterfall within Nature’s Own Rock Garden

This waterfall is in deep eastern Pahang, some 30 kilometers south of Tasek Chini.

In between Terapai1 and Terapai3 land schemes, there is a beautiful waterfall deep within the hills.

In our latest visit, the usual 2.5 meters wide track is still clearly seen going up the first hill. Much broken but broad and clear. Continuing on the way forward, fallen logs and bushes have blocked off the way. Visitor can only proceed on foot. The results- the jungle took over the once broad track. This second part of the dirt road is now almost covered with weeds and fallen debris.

The way in passes through 2 low hills with a approximate distance of 4 kilometers.

For us, the tracking that day was not easy as we have just finished going up the Bertangga. The journey however turned out to be very fruitful.

Just before the start, we came across a large "Hawk" trying to gain height with an animal in its claws. We gave chase and the poor bird abandoned its lunch. The animal turns out to be Sang Kanchil, a local Mouse Deer.

It was dead with a puncture at its throat. We left the carcass in situ without contaminating it with our scent. We hoped that the bird would return to claim its prize later.

The journey in became more interesting; the tracks were lined with ginger plants of the Alpina family and the flowers were in full bloom. There were at least 2 species- recognizable from the different colored flowers, - yellow with maroon, white with deep red.

Then there were mushrooms and fungi; we were delayed by the numerous stops made to capture these on film.

There was this uniquely shaped termite nest that resembles the profile of a mushroom.

Some large timber trees have fallen across the path and in one of them, we salvaged a "baby" Staghorn fern which suffering from dehydration.

At last- the fall; it is a vertical drop 30 meters against the idealistic setting of a "decorated" cliff.

The cliff itself is packed with layers of rock, a characteristic of this region and through the cracks, large palms anchor themselves to give the cliff an impression of a designed garden.

Another feature of this area- there is this unique wetland fern which we had never seen before. The plant thrives well in the cool atmosphere and along the riverine basin.
It is a fall worth visiting, with the present road condition a Scrambler bike will definitely help.

There were Elephants’ dung, footprints and its odor in the air. The bike will boost your confidence of a quick get away. That-- by the way is a joke. The Elephants were there and the road is also obstructed. Do not provoke the animals by making a nuisance of yourself.
