Batangsi Falls
Batangsi Falls have long been a mystery that eluded discovery with multiple expeditions attempted by WoM seniors. (read more about it : here) 1st documented in the Waterfalls of Malaysia Book 1989 (Image 6.) it is only in recent years where all 3 waterfall levels are uncovered. The standout waterfall of the series which has been named by earlier explorers as Jeram Berembun is a vertical horsetail fall nested within a narrow tall rock slope with a pool. The name Berembun (translated : Misty) is a very common one with similar waterfalls named as such (Lolo Falls, Hulu Langat & Lata Berembun, Pantai). This waterfall is NOT suitable for beginners as the trail is very long (~7.8km+ one way) and requires good physical fitness with a final section of river side trekking included.
Head to Semenyih town as the nearest township landmark. From there proceed along Jln Sg Lalang and take the junction heading to an ostrich farm. (Image 1.) Sections of the road inside is not tarred but the gravel road can still be passed easily by normal sedan cars. There will be large areas of farmland and visitors will arrive at Kg Orang Asli Kechau Luar near a Buddhist temple. Visitors can park by the roadside near the Asli Farm Resort (here) Ensure to park without obstructing passing vehicles and proceed by foot from here on out.
From this point the trail will be riverside/river trekking. Follow a small trail on the right of the river up to the river cascade.(Image 4.) Cross the river and follow the trail on the left of the stream. Following the trail, visitors will arrive at a river confluence (3.04734, 101.92874) where on the left is a tributary river by the name of Sg Paumbang. Do not turn left and proceed on the main stream to continue towards Batangsi Falls 1. Along the way there will be a few interesting cascades before reaching Jeram Berembun. (Batangsi Falls 1) Jeram Berembun with a V-shaped deep pool is not the only waterfall here and visitors can scramble up the steep slope on the right over the waterfall to reach Batangsi Falls 2. This is a tall sloped cascade waterfall with a medium sized pool at its base.(Image 5.) Finally continue river trekking for another ~300m to reach Batangsi Falls 3 that is featured in Waterfalls of Malaysia Book. (Image 6.)
Exploration Notes : None. No further exploration has been attempted upriver.
